Myths About Bankruptcy

Colorado Bankruptcy and Credit Card Debt Attorney

  • Do you need relief from overwhelming debts?
  • Are misconceptions about bankruptcy preventing you from filing?
  • Do you worry that an attorney or legal staff will ridicule or look down on you?

Having misconceptions about bankruptcy is common. Yet, many allow those myths to prevent them from filing bankruptcy. At the law offices of John A. McLaughlin Jr., P.C. in Colorado Springs and Pueblo, Colorado, our job is to use our knowledge and experience to educate you about the law, dispel any myths about bankruptcy, and achieve the best possible outcome for you.

Impact of Current Bankruptcy Laws

Unfounded assumptions exist about bankruptcy. When the new bankruptcy laws were passed in October 2005, many assumed that bankruptcy was no longer a viable option. While the changes in the law were significant, the impact of those changes was not. We continue to see clients on a daily basis seeking debt relief and about 80 percent of them still qualify for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Most of the remaining 20 percent qualify for a Chapter 13.

Saving Your Home or Car

The potential loss of the family home or car prevents many in need of debt relief from filing bankruptcy. While you cannot discharge the debt and continue to live in your house or drive your car without paying, we can show you how to keep your home or car in Chapter 7 and prevent foreclosure and repossession in Chapter 13.

Discharging or Reorganizing Debts With Compassion

At the law offices of John A. McLaughlin Jr., P.C., we have helped clients discharge everything from credit card debt to money they owe to the government. We do not lecture, berate nor look down on our clients. Many bankruptcy filings are due to circumstances beyond your control, such as to lost jobs or to mounting medical bills. At our firm, we are your ally in the fight against your creditors. We will stand between you and your creditors and use the powerful laws of bankruptcy to silence their demands.
